You will be pleased to know that all seven of us completed the London to Brighton off-road event on Saturday 24th September.
Rob Matheson was first back at 4.15pm (but he's got bigger wheels than the rest of us!) The rest of us arrived back between 5.15pm and 7.30pm.(And we all made it into work this morning!)
I think we all agreed that the steep climb out of Shere was the most gruelling part, but as they say 'What goes up... must come down'.
Weather conditions were perfect with light cloud cover until late in the day when the sun broke through as we came over the South Downs to look down upon the finish at Brighton. – a welcoming sight.
We are very grateful for your kind support and generous donations to the British Heart Foundation. So far the total raised by our team is £1075 - Well done everyone!
With sincere thanks.

There was a new title up for grabs for the first time at this year's awards – The Best Company to Work for.
The category attracted plenty of entries as organisations vied to show how they looked after and invested in their employees.
The judges were looking for those management teams who attract strong commitment and engage with their employees, who strive to provide the best working environment, have excellent communication channels and promote a friendly and open culture that creates a positive working experience.
Six organisations were shortlisted for the award, each coming from a different spectrum of industry, one of these included Farnborough based Cove Industrial Enterprises Ltd whose Chairman Mr Gordon Day explained "Cove Industrial Enterprises Ltd have been trading in Farnborough for forty six years and supply high quality precision sheet metalwork parts and assemblies to the Aerospace, Ministry, Automotive and Commercial sectors. We pride our self on the quality of our work which is only possible due to the efforts of our team of highly valued and skilled staff, for us staff development and wellbeing is crucial to long term success."
On the night Cove narrowly missed out on top spot but were delighted to be presented with a "highly commended" award and a statement of congratulations from Christopher Avery of law firm Pitmans which read "this is a truly great achievement considering the competition. I would like to wish you and your entire team all the very best for 2011 and look forward to seeing you at the awards next year".
EMC 2010

Cove were exhibiting at the EMC 2010 Exhibition and Conference held at Newbury Racecourse on the 11th and 12th October. Cove have been involved for many years in building sheet metal specialist enclosures and components to meet EMC and environmental requirements.
The exhibition proved to be a great success in meeting new and old acquaintances as well as giving two of Cove's apprentices the opportunity of working at the other end of the spectrum and meet with the people who specify the work they are involved with on any other working day.
Fleet Pond conservation

Recent work carried out by Fleet pond volunteers to build a new Jetty involved local company involvement including that of Cove Industries. The fluorescent green safety tabards worn by volunteers were donated by Cove.
The printing of ‘Fleet Pond Volunteer’ was also done in house by Cove using a Silk-screening printing process normally used for the printing of high quality instrument panels illustrating Coves versatility to a variety of types of work.
Visit The Fleet Pond Blog for the full story and for further news and information on the Fleet Pond Nature Reserve.

Looking forward and a sad goodbye

It was with some sadness that Cove said goodbye to Clive Newman, Cove's Paint Shop Manager. The paint shop was a originally a 2001 acquisition and Clive was the manager at the time of Cove's take over and agreed to continue in the role. Being a keen Campervan enthusiast Clive has his sights set on a few months in Spain to kick off his retirement.
Having everyone together for Clive's retirement party gave an ideal opportunity for Phil Gower, MD, to address the staff on plans for the New year as well as a look back over 2009.
The adoption of SC21 and the implications to all the members of staff was the main topic. This was followed by a review of the current year which showed that Cove had ridden out the economic crisis well. With a healthy order book and sights set on further positive changes Cove can enjoy the Christmas break and look forward to the New year.

SC21 – The new standard for Aerospace, Defence and Security sub-contractors

Cove Industrial Enterprises Ltd are delighted to announce their signing up to the SC21 programme. (Supply Chains for the 21st Century).
SC21 was launched at the Farnborough International air show and is a change programme designed to accelerate the competitiveness of the Aerospace, Defence and Security industries by raising the performance of its supply chains.
The benefits of SC21 to our organisation are gained through improving our performance and raising our profile within the supply chain by working closely within the guidelines of SC21, whilst we already supply an exceptional service to our customers, SC21 will help us further to:
a) Achieve improved levels of on time delivery to our customers
b) Enable us to further improve our right first time performance
It means doing what we already do but in a more efficient and co-ordinated way.
By achieving SC21we aim to save money by reducing waste, and to increase our customer base by being recognised as a supplier of exceptional quality and service levels. We will stand out to the industry as only one of a very few sheet metal work companies which have taken this initiative.
Whilst we are already well on the way as a result of our MIETrak system, our quality system and not least, our collective skill base, the program will inevitably mean some alterations in the way we do things, and will involve the entire workforce, not just our management or QA staff. The result is that we will gain an important edge over our competitors and add strength by reducing the amount of waste (time & materials). It will also feed into the supplier improvement programs we have running with some of our present customers.
We will need to use the services of an external training provider to acquire some of the techniques and skills to gain accreditation. Sigma Management Developments Ltd will be working with us over the next few months to assist us in obtaining this standard. (Sigma Management Development Ltd has been selected by the Society of British Aerospace Companies and the Farnborough Aerospace Consortium to assist companies such as ourselves in achieving this award)

A|D|S is the trade body advancing UK AeroSpace, Defence and Security industries with Farnborough International Limited as a wholly-owned subsidiary.
A|D|S also encompasses the British Aviation Group (BAG). It is formed from the merger of the Association of Police and Public Security Suppliers (APPSS), the Defence Manufacturers Association (DMA) and the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC).
Fire Marshall training

In accordance with The Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations, several members of Cove's staff have undertaken Fire Marshall training.
So why the need for Fire Marshals?
Cove Industries represents a great deal of floor space made up of various departments some of which are centrally located within the building. It is a known fact that having a selection of the workforce as designated fire marshals makes evacuation in case of fire safer for everyone.
Any colour as long as it’s green!
As part of Cove’s modernisation program within its paintshop, the company has taken delivery of a new Vixen Phoswash machine to replace its previous solvent based degreasing plant. The new plant is so environmentally friendly that the investment has received funding support from the Carbon Trust Initiative.
The introduction of this technology increases the physical degreasing capacity whilst introducing the option of a phosphating process that enhances the corrosion resistance of steel and provides improved adhesion. Bigger, better and environmentally friendly!

Paint shop comes home
Cove has now completed the move of its painting facility into the Farnborough Headquarters. Previously the facility was based a few miles away in Sandhurst. By moving it to the space vacated by Cove Plastics all manufacturing and finishing functions are now under one roof meaning greater efficiency and faster turnaround.
In moving the paint plant the company has taken the opportunity to modernise and enhance various aspects of the painting, including the purchase of a new environmentally sealed dust free spray room with integral oven.
Sweating it out in the new Cove Gym
Since selling Cove Plastics in November 2008, Cove has had surplus office space at its Farnborough headquarters. What better use than to convert some of this space into a Gym for the staff. In May the company converted what was a dingy stock room into a fully functioning Gym complete with air-conditioning and flat screen television. The staff think it’s great and it saves them money and keeps them fit.
