A brief history of Cove, its roots and many varied activities over the last 40 plus years.
These history sections on websites are often overlooked and can, quite frankly, be boring. So lets cut to the chase:
In 1964 a 21 year old Gordon Day, Chairman of Cove Industries, was working for an engineering company that was in trouble. With a little help from his father, Monty Day, he decided to take on and run the company himself and basically he still is.
Quite simple really but it is worth noting that since 1964 Cove has involved itself in many varied industries in addition to and complimenting the core engineering service such as:
PVC dip moulding – Cove being a pioneer of the process, fluidised bed powder coating, fibre optic communications and broadcast camera transmission along with induction loop systems, – both design and manufacture. Additionally Cove managed to revolutionise the roof truss making industry, and find time to mechanise the tea lady.
Interesting stuff and there is more of which Gordon would be happy to talk about which in its self is a vital clue to Cove’s success - communication, a willingness to learn and understand as well as accepting a challenge – this is what Cove is all about.
Cove’s customers realise very quickly that they have a supplier that will work with them and go beyond the original requirement. The skill level and experience at Cove is simply incredible as over 40 years of being involved in just about everything would suggest.
Cove’s philosophy of developing long-term working relationships, where they help customers do things differently and better, still guides the business 45 years later. It is the same with Cove’s staff “We grow our own talent “– Gordon started as an apprentice, as did Phil Gower, Cove’s M.D. We continue to run an apprenticeship scheme and also bring in highly trained people from other companies.
In 2008 the decision was taken to concentrate on Cove’s core expertise – precision sheet metal design and assembly but, as would be expected, big time!
Coming on line as this is written is Cove’s paint shop specialising in wet and powder paints with clean room facilities. This service compliments their silk screen and pad printing and with near future plans for plating and post forming treatments, Cove really has become a one stop shop for all things sheet metal.
So there you are, no boring life story or long list of “we did that for them”, Just a potted history of success based on skilful experience, common sense and a small business attitude to customers backed by a highly professional service.
